Easy Laundry Room Makeover: : Paint Your Cabinets in a Few Simple Steps with Beyond Paint

Your laundry room may be one of the hardest-working rooms in your home, but that doesn't mean it can't look  good too.

One of the easiest ways to give a laundry room an instant refresh is by updating the cabinets.

For this project, we're using Beyond Paint in Nantucket, a coastal-inspired color that adds a soft, fresh feel  to the space.

What You'll Need

  • Beyond Paint in Nantucket
  • General-purpose degreaser, such as Simple Green or Zep
  • Clean cloths
  • 3/8-inch microfiber or woven roller
  • Paint tray
  • Painter's tape, if desired

Step 1: Clear the Cabinets

Remove everything from inside the cabinets and clear the surrounding workspace.

Remove hardware if you'd like to make painting easier.

Step 2: Degrease the Cabinets

Thoroughly clean the cabinet surfaces with a general-purpose degreaser.

Even though laundry room cabinets may not have the same cooking grease buildup as kitchen cabinets,  cleaning away dirt, oil and residue is essential.

The surface should be clean, dry, grease-free, oil-free and wax-free before painting.

Step 3: Let Everything Dry

Allow the cabinets to completely dry.

No stripping.

No sanding.

No separate primer.

That's it for the prep.

Step 4: Roll on the First Coat

Apply Beyond Paint using a 3/8-inch microfiber or woven roller

Work in smooth, even sections and avoid applying an excessively heavy coat.

Beyond Paint can also be applied using an airless or HVLP sprayer

Step 5: Wait at Least Two Hours

Allow the first coat to dry for a minimum of two hours before applying the second coat. Two coats are encouraged for full coverage.

Step 6: Apply the Second Coat

Apply your second coat of Nantucket.

Watch as your dated cabinets transform into a fresh focal point for the laundry room.

Step 7: Put Everything Back

Once the cabinets are ready to handle, reinstall the hardware and return your laundry supplies. Your laundry room just got a whole lot prettier.
